Doll making
We are Peter and Gwen Dohnt, and have enjoyed making dolls together since 2000.
We are pleased to present our high quality, individually hand-made, porcelain and reborn dolls.
We make every endeavor to finish each doll highly detailed and beautifully dressed,
We understand that every doll is a subjective piece of work - some will be loved - and others ...........
We prefer to sell our dolls directly from our gallery or at shows we attend from time to time.

Classes
We run small classes so we can give individual attention to our students.
While we teach skills that allow direct reproduction of dolls to picture, we choose to encourage; - The best from our students - Individual interpretation - Creative exploration and expression. We are aware that we provide foundational skills only and that we neither make the doll, nor take it home to enjoy, as such our students have the final say on their dolls. Home-stay Holidays
We have no "fixed" approach to your doll making holiday.
We will share our skills, studio, home and our little back yard (Tasmania) the paradise surrounding us. Plan on a home environment, knock-out scenery and available activities from fine dining to wilderness trekking. We will do our best to facilitate what you might like to try. |
Gallery Tours
We consider it a privilege to share the display of finished dolls in our gallery and to share our skills and craft with welcome visitors. We do our best to be to be informative and don't hesitate to answer questions about process, repairs and how we do what we do. Students all smiles after show

Artist Statement
In 2011 I completed an Advanced Diploma in Art and Contemporary Craft which required me
to consider what it is about what we do that makes both art and artist.
Artist Statement
For me, Doll-making is about many connecting themes.
It makes allies of art, craft, history, beauty, fashion, individuality, sculpture, mass-production, industry, toy and collectible.
Where else do you get to be originator, sculptor, mould-maker, precision engineer of multiple disciplines,
ceramicist, artist/painter, constructor, artist/costumer, cobbler, wig-maker,
jeweler, milliner, display organizer, teacher, marketer ……..
I find myself smitten by little faces. More deeply though, I pursue doll-making because of its broad reflection of humanity.
As with people, no two are alike, nor are any two responses.
Joy, horror, pity, anger, discomfort, sorrow, elation, can all be triggered by the same doll
and it is a humbling experience to watch and listen as others view the work.
I cannot divorce the many techniques involved in making and presenting a doll from the finished piece.
The process of making each individually hand crafted doll is a reward in itself.
I do not make dolls for show except where a theme inspires an idea I wish to express.
My dolls do however go to show as I value the critique and opinions of others.
I choose to work in porcelain, a medium that is capable of lasting for thousands of years.
This thought often guides my approach to a doll.
